Privacy policy

The short version

• This site is for parents and other grown-ups. We do not collect personal information about children, and we do not ask for names, photos, voices, birthdays or locations.
• No accounts, no cookies, no advertising or tracking scripts.
• We do not store IP addresses.

What we store, exactly

• The card you choose for each question (for example "drum" or "sunny"), so the Letter Buddies can share what everyone picked. We keep totals per day; results are only ever shown as "some", "lots" or "so many" friends.
• Your US state, only if you choose to add it to Island Weather. Nothing more precise is ever asked for.
• A daily anonymous device token. Your browser makes up a random code and keeps it in its own local storage. It changes every day and is not linked to you. We use it only to allow one answer per question per device and to limit rapid repeat taps. On our side it is stored in scrambled (hashed) form and deleted within a few days.
• Buddy Mailbox notes (only if you type one). Typed text goes to a private review queue. It is never shown or read on air: a person sorts it into a topic such as "trucks". The text is erased when it has been reviewed, and in any case deleted after at most 7 days. Please do not type names or personal details; notes that look like they contain them are held back and deleted.

Your browser also remembers, on your device only, which questions you already answered today and that you passed the grown-ups check for this visit. You can clear this at any time in your browser settings.

What we do not do

• No cookies and no advertising or analytics trackers on this site.
• No IP addresses stored, and no accounts or sign-in.
• No selling or sharing of data. Answers are only used to decide what airs and to understand which programs families enjoy, as daily totals.

Services we use

• Cloudflare hosts the site and its database. When you answer, we use Cloudflare Turnstile, a check that an answer comes from a person rather than a robot. Turnstile runs only after the grown-ups check and is provided by Cloudflare under its own privacy terms.
• Buddy Mailbox notes may be checked automatically by an AI model running on Cloudflare (Workers AI) before a person reviews them.
• The stream itself is on YouTube. The home page shows our own still picture of the island, and the YouTube player loads only if you press play, using YouTube's privacy-enhanced (no-cookie) mode. Once the player is playing, or when you follow a link to YouTube, YouTube's own privacy policy applies.

Children

This site is directed to parents and caregivers. The stream is made for young children, who watch with a grown-up. We design everything so that no personal information about a child is collected. If you believe a child's information has reached us, contact us and we will delete it.
